Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction, or spiritual accompaniment, is a confidential space where you can share your thoughts and reflections about the life of faith.

It is part of a contemplative journey where, together with an experienced guide, we can grow in our awareness of God’s presence and activity in the whole of life.

People come to spiritual direction for many reasons – it may be at a crossroads in life; when we want to explore new ways of praying, or when prayer is jaded; when we are in need of guidance or encouragement in walking God’s way; or for ongoing companionship in the lifelong journey of faith.

“Here we are, you and I, and I hope a third, Christ, is in our midst.” Aelred of Rievaulx

I have been deeply influenced by the Benedictine and Ignatian traditions in the life of prayer. Discerning a wise and ordered life, and using our imagination to dwell more deeply in God’s love are some of the abiding gifts of these classic traditions.

I am glad to work with Christians of all backgrounds, and am also experienced in supporting people whose faith does not fit comfortably into any traditional category. For those interested in the full Ignatian spiritual exercises, I offer a form of 19th annotation retreat in everyday life.
