19th annotation
The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius are widely known. In their classic form, the Exercises are undertaken in the course of a 30 day residential retreat. It is a powerful process, which can be deeply transformative.
Less well-known are the adaptations of the Ignatian programme for people in busy lives. Ignatius suggested that people who, for good reason, were unable to drop their everyday commitments could still benefit from a form of the Exercises. This is sometimes known as a 19th annotation retreat.

The material is similar to the 30 day retreat, providing an in-depth opportunity to grow in faith and love through an intimate discovery of God’s grace. It is typically spread out over 7-12 months, and involves a weekly meeting with a spiritual director. For the retreatant, there is a commitment to daily prayer exercises and the keeping of a reflective journal.
